At Brilliant Read Media, it is our constant endeavour to identify and share some of the unique and compelling stories from the startup ecosystem. As part of this, we invited Dr. Mahesh Patil for an interview with Brilliant Read Media. To say further, Dr. Mahesh is a Diabetes Reversal Coach & Educator, Speaker and Founder at Sixth Gear. Let’s learn more about his background, inspiring journey so far and his advice for our growing community!
Excerpts from our exclusive interview with Dr. Mahesh:
Could you please talk us through your background and your journey?
I was always drawn to healing, not just treating diseases, but truly helping people transform. I’m a doctor by qualification, but a wellness crusader by heart. After two decades in clinical practice, running successful Ayurvedic centres, I saw a pattern that deeply disturbed me — people were managing diseases, not reversing them. Especially with diabetes, I saw young lives shackled to medications, fear, and hopelessness.
That’s when I decided to go beyond prescriptions. I immersed myself in holistic healing, nutrition, chakra science, and root-cause medicine. I experimented, studied, and created protocols that worked. From seeing obese teenagers become fit, to diabetics reversing their sugar levels in just a few months, this became my purpose.
My journey has taken me from running general and diabetes clinics to founding Sixth Gear lifestyle clinic, launching retreats, writing a book on diabetes reversal, and starting a cosmetology and clinical nutrition academy. Every step has been about one thing: empowering people to take charge of their own health.
And you know what the most beautiful part is? My patients become my tribe. Their wins feel like mine. Their transformation stories are the real fuel behind my journey.
How did you discover your passion?
It wasn’t a sudden spark—it was a series of whispers from life. As a young doctor, I followed the conventional path: diagnose, prescribe, repeat. But deep inside, I felt a growing discomfort.
Patients kept coming back—not healthier, just more dependent. One day, a middle-aged man with diabetes told me, “Doctor, I’m scared of food now.” That sentence hit me like a punch. Food, which should nourish and heal, had become his enemy.
That moment planted a seed. I started questioning everything—why were we only managing diseases when we could aim to reverse them? I dug into holistic sciences, nutrition, ancient Ayurvedic wisdom, chakra balancing, and energy healing. Slowly, I created a system that brought results, not just reports.
My passion wasn’t just discovered—it unfolded, one story at a time. Every time a patient reversed their sugar levels, lost weight, and felt hopeful again, that fire in me grew stronger.
Today, helping people reclaim their health, energy, and confidence isn’t just my work—it’s my calling.
Despite the challenges, what keeps you going when things get tough?
Honestly, it’s the faces of the people I serve. There are days when things feel overwhelming—logistics fail, patients relapse, or a project hits a wall. But then I get a message like, “Doctor, my sugar levels are normal for the first time in 10 years.” Or a mother calls and says, “My daughter smiles more now. She’s lost weight and gained confidence.”
What keeps me going is knowing that I’m creating something bigger than myself. Writing my book on diabetes reversal has been one of the most emotional parts of this journey. I poured into it not just science, but the real stories—failures, comebacks, and the smiles of people who reversed their diabetes.
When things get tough, I flip back to those pages. I remember that I’m not just building a clinic or a brand—I’m shaping a movement. That’s powerful enough to pull me through any rough patch. That… keeps me going.
I remind myself why I started: to bring real healing into people’s lives—not just lab reports, but peace, energy, and dignity. Every life transformed reminds me that the struggle is worth it.
Also, I’ve learned to pause, breathe, and reconnect with my own healing practices—meditation, grounding, and nature. I don’t run away from hard days anymore. I sit with them, learn, and move forward with even more clarity. Because when your work is aligned with your soul, giving up just isn’t an option.
What are the three most important lessons you have learned in your life?
One big lesson came while writing my upcoming book on diabetes reversal. I realised how under-informed and misguided people are about their own health. That experience taught me:
1) Healing needs to be simplified.
2) Education is empowerment.
3) Stories are more powerful than statistics.
That’s why in my book, I’ve blended real-life stories, practical advice, and emotional truths. Because people don’t change when you throw data at them—they change when you touch their hearts.
a) Healing is deeper than medicine. I’ve learned that diabetes reversal—or any transformation—doesn’t happen through pills alone. True healing begins when we look beyond numbers and treat the person, not just the disease. It’s about emotions, daily habits, stress, sleep, and mindset. When I started focusing on holistic care, that’s when I saw people genuinely getting free from diabetes—not just controlling it.
b) Simplicity creates breakthroughs. You don’t need exotic superfoods or extreme workouts to reverse diabetes. I’ve seen people heal with home-cooked millet meals, daily walks, and breathing exercises. It’s the simple, sustainable changes that bring the most powerful results. Nature has already given us everything we need—our job is to return to it.
c) Purpose is the best fuel. There are days when things get tough. But every time a patient sends me their normal sugar report, or says, “I’m off insulin now, doctor”, it fills me with energy. Knowing that I’m helping someone get their life back—that’s my true fuel. Diabetes reversal is not just my profession—it’s my mission.
In your opinion, what are the keys to success?
For me, success is not just about money or fame—it’s about impact. It’s when someone says, “Because of you, I’m living a better life.”
That’s real success. And I’ve learned that three keys unlock it:
Clarity of Purpose: When you know why you’re doing what you’re doing, every obstacle becomes a stepping stone. My purpose is clear—to help people reverse diabetes and reclaim their health. That purpose guides my decisions, fuels my energy, and keeps distractions away.
Consistency over Motivation: You don’t need to feel inspired every day. You just need to show up. Whether it’s creating content, checking patient reports, or studying new therapies, I’ve realised that small, consistent efforts build big results over time.
Compassion and Connection: Success is not a solo journey. When you lead with empathy and genuinely care about your clients, your team, and your community, people feel it. And when they trust you, they walk the journey with you.
Success isn’t about racing ahead. It’s about growing with grace and bringing others along with you.
What advice would you give students and young professionals who want to have a successful career?
Start with this simple truth: don’t just chase a career—build a calling. Find something that lights you up and serves others. That’s where true success begins.
Here’s what I’ve learned, and what I wish someone had told me earlier:
(i) Learn deeply, but listen to your heart too. Degrees and skills matter, but your intuition and passion matter more. Explore. Experiment. It’s okay to start in one field and evolve into another. That’s how I moved from being just a doctor to becoming a diabetes reversal expert, wellness entrepreneur, and educator.
(ii) Be okay with slow growth. Success is not an overnight story—it’s a journey of learning, failing, reflecting, and rising. Stay consistent and play the long game.
(iii) Serve first, money follows. When you solve real problems and genuinely help people, opportunities and income flow naturally. I focused on healing people, and the impact grew into retreats, clinics, courses, and global reach.
(iv) Keep upgrading—inside and out. Invest in your mindset, not just skillsets. Learn emotional intelligence, communication, wellness, and how to manage stress. That’s your secret edge.
(v) Don’t wait to be perfect—start. You’ll figure things out on the way. Confidence is built through action, not overthinking.
If you have a message or insight, share it. Don’t wait for “the right time.” Writing my book took courage and clarity, but it gave me a voice beyond the clinic. Whether you write, speak, post, or teach, put your knowledge out there. It’s the best investment in your growth and your impact.
So breathe, believe, and begin. The world needs your energy—authentic, imperfect, and powerful, just the way you are.
“Don’t wait to be perfect — start with purpose, serve with heart, and success will follow.”
Last but not least, what about your journey makes it satisfying/exciting?
What excites me the most is watching lives transform in real time. When someone messages me saying, “Doctor, I’m finally off insulin,” or “I feel like myself again,” there’s no award in the world that compares to that feeling.
What makes this journey satisfying is knowing that I’m not just treating diseases—I’m helping people rewrite their health stories. Whether it’s a teenager reversing prediabetes, or a 55-year-old regaining confidence to dance again—I get to witness human resilience and hope every single day.
Writing my book on diabetes reversal has also been deeply fulfilling. It allowed me to bottle up 20+ years of clinical insights, stories, and simple truths that the world needs to hear. Knowing it will reach people beyond my clinic walls, even in places I may never travel to—that’s powerful.
What started as a clinic has now become a movement. And that’s what keeps me going every morning—with curiosity, joy, and a heart full of gratitude.
